The September RRLug meeting had a great attendance.  We met at the usual time of  6:00 pm in the Rasmussen College Boardroom and had the following presentations:

  • Raspberry Pi /GrovePi – Bob Wirka of Realtime Control Works demonstrated  a Raspberry Pi 3 with a GrovePi I/O board. It has software that allows you to connect the I/O devices schematically to perform control functions. His RPi runs the Sedona Framework VM which allowed him to program an application program using a schematic tool. There was a component object for each of the GrovePi sensors that you can place on the schematic and then connect with “wires”. Lots of other function blocks are available as components.  It was a great discussion as Bob discussed his own personal code changes that he has made to the project.
  • Boiler Control Project – Gary Melvin did a code walkthrough of the boiler monitor and alert system he  recently developed in Python.  It was interesting to see him present the basis of his a piece of code that solves a real-world problem.
  • Linux News – We did discussed some of the Linux news highlights from this past month!

The meeting was very information and a lot of fun! Thanks for presentations Bob and Gary!
